Probationary period

Agreed initial period of an employment relationship of a maximum of six months, during which notice of termination can be given with a notice period of two weeks.

During an agreed probationary period, for a maximum duration of six months, the employment relationship may be terminated with a notice period of two weeks (§ 622 Abs. 3 BGB (German Civil Code)). Regardless of this, general protection against dismissal under the Kündigungsschutzgesetz (Dismissal Protection Act) only applies once the employment relationship has existed for longer than six months (§ 1 KSchG). For the notice period, the decisive factor is when the notice of termination is received.
