Legal knowledge
Legal knowledge: glossary, areas of law, legal library and help articles explain terms, statutes and procedures in plain language.
All recordings use fictional sample data – no real cases, people or file numbers. AI output can contain errors and does not replace legal advice.
Legal areas: find your own case by legal area
The overview sorts the matters for which Smart Legal Pro brings a ready-made process by legal area, from employment contract to utility bill statement to official notice from an authority. At the top, two counters show how many legal areas and matters are stored; below, the areas follow in groups such as “Everyday & housing”, for example employment law, tenancy law and traffic law. A click leads to the respective area with the typical matters, their response deadlines, matching free calculators and the path to a law firm. This way you find the way into your case even without a technical term. The tenancy law page fits as an example of a single area.
Tenancy law: typical matters with response deadline and ready-made process
The page on the legal area of tenancy law describes the process at the top: you upload your letter or describe the situation, receive a clear classification with deadline and risks and then decide yourself whether to reply or hand over to a law firm. Below, the section “Matters in this legal area” lists typical cases such as terminating a lease, rent reduction, utility bill statement, commercial lease, checking a lease and reclaiming a rental deposit, each with the typical response deadline. According to the page, the time period usually begins with receipt of the letter; for the rental deposit it expressly names no rigid deadline. This lets you see at a glance how urgent your matter may be.
Glossary: legal terms explained in plain language
The glossary explains legal terms in a few lines, sorted alphabetically and in two columns, starting with Abmahnung (formal warning letter). Each entry carries abbreviations for the legal systems in which it applies (DE, AT, CH) and leads to its own page with links to matching use cases. This lets you clarify a word from a letter before you react, such as base interest rate, fine notice or data processing agreement. The next view shows what such a page looks like, using Mahnbescheid (German payment order) as an example.
Glossary Mahnbescheid: meaning, objection deadline and next steps
The glossary entry explains in plain language what a court Mahnbescheid is: a payment order in the automated dunning procedure, not to be confused with a private payment reminder. According to the text, you have two weeks from service to file an objection (§ 692 ZPO, German Code of Civil Procedure); after that the other side can apply for an enforcement order (Vollstreckungsbescheid), on the basis of which enforcement is possible. Under “Matching use cases”, links lead to use cases such as Payment reminder & Mahnbescheid and Debt collection letters. This tells you how urgent the yellow letter from the court is and which help you can call up, without the entry assessing your individual case.
Legal library: search and verify provisions and decisions
The home page of the legal library shows counters for sections, decisions, archived full texts, statutes and legal concepts at the top and below them a search field for provision, case number or keyword. With the tabs you narrow down to provisions or decisions, search in title and citation or in the full wording and filter on the left by legal area, such as family law, tenancy law or employment law. In the middle are the most-cited provisions, on the right codes and frequent searches. This takes you from a question to the source reference, and you can check the information against the official source. The library is accessible without sign-in, and a sign-in link is at the top right.
Provision in full wording: § 622 BGB with citation, references and case law
The individual page for § 622 BGB (German Civil Code) shows the statutory text with paragraphs and numbers in the middle. On the right you find a citation and a permalink to copy, the position in the statute with references to the provision before and after, related legal concepts and a list of the decisions that cite the provision. This takes you from the statute to the case law that applies it, and you can transfer citations cleanly into a letter. Fittingly, the notice period calculator computes the period from this provision.
