Buy-out (copyright)
Lump-sum settlement of all usage rights in a work — usually worth a critical review in the creative sector.
In a buy-out the author transfers all known usage rights without limits in time, territory or scope — against a one-off payment. § 32a UrhG (the 'fairness clause') protects against an obvious disproportion: in the event of unexpected success there is a claim to additional remuneration.
