Asking good questions

How to get significantly better AI answers with clear, concrete questions.

Updated 4 October 2026

The quality of the answer depends heavily on the question. With a few simple rules, you can get significantly more out of it.

The most important rules

  • Concrete instead of general: "Can my landlord withhold the security deposit if I moved out on time but there was mold?" is better than "Tenancy law?".
  • One topic per question: Separate multiple matters instead of packing everything into one sentence.
  • State your goal: Say what you want to achieve (understand, object, terminate, negotiate).
  • Specify the country: Law is country-dependent (Languages & Countries (Jurisdictions)).

Before / After

  • Weak: "What about my contract?"
  • Strong: "What notice period applies to my German employment contract if I have been employed for 3 years and want to terminate at the end of the month?"

How to proceed

  1. Formulate the question in a clear sentence.
  2. Add the most important facts (Who? What? When? Where?).
  3. Attach relevant documents or refer to a case file.
  4. Follow up if the answer remains too general.

How much context is useful is shown by More Context, Better Answer. Where you ask what is clarified by Ask a legal question vs. Chatting with a document.

Have everything evaluated at once

If you want to have an entire matter evaluated coherently (comprehensive review), it is best to upload all documents first and then start. The report is a snapshot of the status it found at the start.
