Is this legal advice? The legal framework
Why the Litigation guide is a self-help tool and not legal advice – and what this means for you.
In short: No. The Litigation guide is a self-help tool, not legal advice and not representation by us. This distinction is important – for you and legally.
You conduct your proceeding yourself
Before the Amtsgericht (Local Court), you are allowed to represent yourself in civil matters – there is no mandatory representation by a lawyer (Anwaltszwang). This is precisely where the Litigation guide comes in: you are and remain the party taking action. We provide you with tools, templates, and easy-to-understand explanations – nothing more.
What we do – and what we do not do
- What we do: Structural templates, drafts, explanations of court mail, deadline calculation, cost estimation.
- What we do not do: Represent you in court, submit documents on your behalf, or provide you with individual legal advice.
You review every draft, sign it yourself, and submit it yourself. Therefore, at the beginning, you explicitly confirm that you are representing yourself – we record this in a traceable manner.
When a lawyer is required
Where a lawyer is mandatory (e.g., at the Landgericht (Regional Court)) or the matter becomes too complex, the system blocks self-creation and guides you to the lawyer handover – see When to Choose a Lawyer Over AI?. This is not a step backward, but part of a responsible process.
And the AI?
The AI is an aid and can make mistakes – please read Limits of AI & No Legal Advice regarding this. The responsibility for content, deadlines, and submission lies with you.
