What happens to my documents?
From upload to deletion: Where your files are stored, who can see them, and how you can remove them.
Here you can see the entire journey of a document – transparent from start to finish.
1. Upload
Your document is transmitted in encrypted form (TLS) and stored in encrypted form (AES-256) – within the EU. It ends up under My documents and is assigned exclusively to your account.
2. Analysis by the AI
For the analysis, the content is transferred to the language model. The following applies:
- Personal data is masked before most model calls (with documented exceptions).
- The AI service provider processes the request without permanent storage (zero-retention) and does not use your data for training purposes.
- Content does not end up in plain text in logs.
Read more about this in What is the AI – and what is it not? and on the AI Transparency Page.
3. Who can see it?
- Only you – via the access protection per account.
- A law firm will only see a document once you explicitly share it during an inquiry.
4. Deletion & export
- You can download documents yourself at any time (Viewing documents (viewer)).
- Via the settings, you can export all data stored for your account as a JSON file (Exporting My Data (GDPR), Managing Account & Data).
- Upon account deletion, your personal data will be removed after a short security period.
The public page How we handle your documents also shows the whole path at a glance.
