The AI chat in the Anwaltsportal now queries official registers directly — GLEIF, EUIPO, WIPO Global Brand DB and UK Companies House — and every answer states which source it came from, which jurisdiction it applies to and how reliable it is.
One question instead of four browser tabs
"Check whether trademark X is registered in the EU." Or: "Who is behind Y Ltd?" Until now that meant leaving the chat, finding the register website, working the search form and copying the results back by hand — one separate tab per source. Now you ask the question directly in the chat. The AI recognises that you mean a register query, calls up the right source and brings the result back into the ongoing conversation in a structured form. Connected are:
- GLEIF — the worldwide LEI register for legal entities,
- EUIPO and WIPO Global Brand DB — trademark research, connected via a licensed provider,
- UK Companies House — the British companies register.
An official source beats a web hit
A search-engine hit and a register entry are not the same thing — even if both might look identical in the chat. That is why every answer states three things: the source, the jurisdiction and the reliability. So you can see at a glance whether a piece of information comes from an official register or from the open web. If there is no connected official source for your question, the AI falls back on web research with citations — and honestly flags it as such rather than feigning official certainty.
Works even without a case file
Register queries also run in chats with no linked case file. That is often exactly where they are most valuable: for a quick initial check before taking on a mandate. Who is the other side really, does the company still exist, is the sign already taken — questions like these can be settled before a case file has even been created.
Three recipes for practice
- Trademark conflict before filing: Have a planned sign checked against EUIPO and the WIPO Global Brand DB before your client files. The hits are an initial assessment with a stated source — assessing, say, the likelihood of confusion remains your task as a lawyer.
- LEI and group-structure check: Via GLEIF you can establish worldwide which legal entity sits behind an LEI — useful with international contracting parties and financial matters.
- Identifying UK companies: When there is a Ltd on the other side, UK Companies House delivers the register data straight into the chat, without switching tools.
Honesty as a feature: what is (still) missing
Not every register can be queried automatically in a reliable way — some simply offer no clean interface. The German commercial register is therefore currently not connected. The AI will still answer questions about it, but via web research with citations and clearly flagged as such. We consider that better than simulating an official connection that does not exist: you need to be able to rely on "official" really meaning official with us. Further registers will follow as soon as we can connect them cleanly.
