Creating legal letters
From objections to terminations: create and customize letters in minutes.
Under Letters you can create legal letters – from objections and terminations to notices of defects. There are two ways to get a finished letter: via a suitable template from the catalog or, if you are unsure, via free description in the writing assistant.
Path A: Template from the catalog (if you know what you need)
- Select letter type. Open Letters and search for the appropriate type in the catalog (e.g., objection, termination, notice of defects).
- Answer questions. The assistant will guide you through the necessary information. What it already knows from your facts of the case, your matter, or your identity is pre-filled – sender data and signature come from your active identity (Private or Business View).
- Create. Before creating, you will see the cost notice (Where do I see what something costs before I start?); the amount is only charged after confirmation.
- Edit & download. You will receive a finished letter that you can customize in the editor and download as a PDF or DOCX.
Intermediate statuses are saved as a draft – you can continue later where you left off. If you change the template in the middle of the assistant, your information regarding position and result will be retained; only template-specific fields will be cleared.
Have you received a letter that you need to respond to? A catalog template does not read this document. It is better to upload it – the analysis will show deadlines and risks, and the reply letter will be built directly on the document.
Scope of the letter: Before creating, you choose how detailed the letter should be: Concise (about half a page: matter, demand, and deadline), Normal (about 1–2 pages), or Detailed (about 2–4 pages, every argument with legal basis). The price does not depend on the scope, and the AI never writes artificially longer than the facts of the case allow. If you have stored a preferred length in the settings, it is pre-selected and marked with "from your profile".
Path B: Free description (if you are unsure)
Do you not know which template fits? Describe your matter freely in the writing assistant (Assistant):
- Describe the matter. Describe in your own words what it is about.
- Clarify follow-up questions. The assistant asks targeted follow-up questions and summarizes what it has understood.
- Confirm. You see the summary and the proposed result (e.g., a specific letter), select standard/premium if necessary, and trigger the creation.
- Result. The finished letter lands with you for editing and downloading – the assistant can also guide you directly to the suitable template, to a contract, or to the upload.
Customize & format
In the editor, you change text, set bold/italic, use lists and links – the formatting is carried over into the PDF/DOCX.
Sending
After creation, you arrive at the letter overview (accessible at any time from the list via "Open & send"). There, you download the PDF or DOCX, copy the text with "Copy text" (e.g., for a contact form), or open your email program with subject and text using "As email". If the deadline in the letter is now near or has expired, you will see a notice and can adjust it before sending with "Adjust deadline".
After sending
On the same page, you can mark the letter as sent – if it mentions a deadline, you can optionally transfer it directly to your deadline register. If the letter is not tied to a matter, we will remind you after 14 days without a response to upload a received reply; we will then check it for you (the same principle as Responding to a document, just without a matter). Before you upload a reply for checking, you will see the costs broken down – analysis of the reply and comparison with your letter – and confirm the total; only then will it be charged.
Letters from the chat
From a chat conversation, you can set up a letter directly. The sender is your profile ("Sender from your profile: …"); you can adjust it via "Change sender". If the conversation is assigned to a matter, you can additionally note the result there.
Important
- Letters are a template/initial assessment, not a lawyer's letter. For important matters, have them checked before sending (Finding a lawyer).
- For another country, a German template may be adjusted – a notice will point this out (see Languages & Countries (Jurisdictions)).
- Every AI output is marked as such (notice and disclaimer); documents generated by us (PDF/DOCX) additionally carry a machine-readable AI marking in the file metadata (AI transparency, What is the AI – and what is it not?).
Create contracts via Creating contracts – both private and business. Prefer speaking over typing? Short letters can also be done via voice (Short letters by voice (Lexus)). If you want to respond directly to a received document, Responding to a document is the fastest way.
Business letters
In the catalog, under the category "Business", you will also find outgoing letters for your own claims – payment reminder, friendly payment reminder, supplier termination, and setting a deadline for performance. These templates are intended exclusively for your own claims, not for the collection of third-party claims (that would be debt collection activity).
As an employer: Create a reference letter
Also found under the business templates, but independent in the category "Work": a template with which you as an employer can create a reference letter from scratch – for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. You enter the position, core tasks, employment period, and the desired overall grade; the AI formulates according to the principle of benevolence (§ 109 GewO, in Austria § 39 AngG, in Switzerland Art. 330a OR) and ensures that no known secret code formulations contradict the selected grade. For interim references, there is a separate switch that hides the exit date and reason for termination. This is the counterpart to a reference letter already received: Anyone who has received a reference letter as an employee and wants to have it checked for secret codes or corrected, uploads it instead under Analyze document.
